What Exactly is a “Tiki Beer Fest”???

photo –

One thing is for sure, Firkfest doesn’t like being the same festival every year. We’ve done a chili cook off, a picnic on the park, and this year we’re getting groovy with some tropical vibes. On top of delicious fresh real ale, breweries will add tropical-note hops, tropical fruit, nuts, and possibly rum chips!

Tropical-style casks aren’t something new at the fest, however. These refreshing beers have always played a part. Here’s some of our favorite past-casks that made their one-off debut!

  • El Segundo Brewing Co – Hyperion’s Vanilla Stout on Rum soaked oak
  • Belching Beaver – Me So Honey w/coffee and coconut
  • Belching Beaver – Horchata Imperial Stout w/ Rum Soaked Oak Chips & Cacao Nibs
  • Belching Beaver – Triple IPA w/ Mosaic Hops & Pineapple – 10.5% abv
  • Bravery Brewing Almond Joyrova – Sweet Stout with Coconut, Toasted Almonds, and Cacao 5% abv
  • Karl Strauss Brewing Company Coconut Lime Pintail Pale Ale
  • King Harbor Abel Brown, Brown Ale, 4.7%, bright beer w/ toasted coconut
  • Saint Archer Brewing Co.BBA Scottish Ale w/ Toasted Coconut & Mosaic DIPA
  • The Good Beer Company Hi-Tea Bravo | Hoppy wheat beer with pineapple, apricot, peach, papaya, cranberry, hibiscus, passionfruit and pomegranate, fermented with 100% Brettanomyces | 5.2% abv
  • Barley Forge Brewing Chocolate Banana Milk Stout
  • Bootleggers Brewery Key Lime-ino Palomino Pale ale 5.5% real ale with key lime zest; vegan
  • Hangar 24 Craft Brewery Mango Betty IPA
  • King Harbor Brewing Coconut IPA w/ Lime ZestSwirly w/ Toasted Coconut

Where do I firkin’ park?

One of the most common misconceptions is parking sucks at the Packinghouse. I’m here to dispel that ugly rumor!

Parking is available for free on 42nd street, Anaheim 92805 and park in the city structure. If you intend on leaving your car overnight, I recommend a local city street. Watch for Monday street sweeping!

Valet is also available for $3!

Putting on the Firkfest Pants For Year Three!

11077384_1027776710585642_199825268849441451_oIt’s 2016, which means it’s time to put on the wooden barrel pants, held up by suspenders. Firkfest 2016 is being planned for March 19, 2016, in Anaheim at Farmers Park, which is in-between the Packinghouse and Umami Burger.

This is year three, and there’s a few changes!

  • There’s no chili cookoff this year. I’m going for a “Picnic in the Park” theme this year.
  • Food trucks will be there, and the Packinghouse will be open for all your food needs during and after the festival.
  • You may have heard of a few breweries selling out in 2015. Those breweries are not being invited in order to make room for new breweries. Firestone Walker exempt because they’re my favorite.
  • We thank Inspire Artistic Minds for being a great non-profit to support for the first two years, but with the new Orange County Brewer’s Guild, it’s always been a dream of mine to have a festival where breweries can donate to their own non-profit org.
  • Vendors: Last year a vendor stole my personal table I brought from home, so no vendors will be invited this year, except people heavily into the craft beer world.

Other than that, expect fifty-ish casks from true craft beer makers. Brewers love the fest, the press loves the fest, and I’ve heard nothing but praise from guests. So buy your tickets early and tell a friend!
